Recycling Code
Uber Eats
Recognition: The Andy / New York Festivals
Background
Food delivery has become part of everyday life, but the plastic containers it creates are often too dirty to be recycled properly. Even when people intend to recycle, the extra step of washing containers is easy to ignore.
Insight
People are more likely to change small habits when the action feels immediate, simple and rewarding. If cleaning a container can be linked directly to a visible benefit, recycling becomes less like a chore and more like part of the delivery experience.
Idea
Recycling Code turns used delivery containers into a reward system. By washing the container and scanning the QR code, users can prove it is ready to recycle and receive benefits through Uber Eats, making proper recycling easier, clearer and more motivating.
User Journey
Thirty minutes after delivery, when the user is likely to have finished their meal, Uber Eats sends a notification introducing the Recycling Code campaign. Through a simple five-step journey, users are guided to enjoy their food, wash the container, find the QR code, scan it, and receive a voucher for their next order.
